Sunday mornings at Livia’s place start at a leisurely pace.
No alarm clock, no tight schedule, and—ideally—no appointments before the afternoon. Her young son usually wakes up early, but on Sundays, she tries not to view that as the start of a hectic day.
“I used to want to do all sorts of things on the weekend,” Livia says. “Now, I actually prefer it when the day stays a bit open.”
Breakfast takes longer. Sometimes a book gets picked up halfway through. Sometimes everyone stays in their pajamas a little longer.
How has motherhood changed the way you view time?
“Realizing that not everything has to be productive. I used to find it hard to do nothing. Now, sitting on the couch together sometimes feels like the most important part of the day.”
For Livia, a sense of calm comes not just from silence, but also from familiar rituals. A soft blanket on the couch. A dedicated spot for favorite items. A room that isn’t perfect, but feels warm.
“I love things that last and naturally become part of your daily life.”
What is your favorite moment of the day?
“That moment after his afternoon nap. He wakes up a bit sleepy and just wants to sit with me for a while. It might only last ten minutes, but I love it.”
What do you look for in things for your child?
“Softness, quality, and whether something feels truly pleasant. I’ve become less interested in having a lot of things. I’d rather the items we use be both beautiful and comfortable.”
By late afternoon, the house gets a bit livelier. Toys on the floor, cups on the table, and a child who isn’t quite ready for bed yet.
But these days, Livia sees something beautiful in that, too.
“It doesn’t have to be quiet to feel peaceful.”
