There is something about the early morning that Sophie has grown to love more and more.
Even before the day truly begins—before the first messages arrive and the house slowly comes to life—there is often a brief moment of calm. Her daughter is usually the first to wake up. Still sleepy and warm, she snuggles into bed with Sophie for a few extra minutes together.
“Before I became a mother, I was constantly rushing,” Sophie says. “I wanted to get somewhere, finish something, or was already thinking about what came next. Motherhood has really changed that.”
These days, it is the little things she enjoys most. A leisurely breakfast at the kitchen table. A freshly made bed. A walk with no set plan. Or sitting together on the sofa as the afternoon slowly fades into evening.
What has motherhood taught you?
“To let go a little more. You quickly realize that not everything can be planned. Some days go beautifully, while on others, nothing goes the way you imagined.”
For Sophie, a peaceful home now means something different than it used to. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It is mainly about the things around her feeling right and adding value to daily life.
“I’ve become much more conscious of what we really need. I prefer having fewer things, but choosing items that are beautiful, soft, and practical.”
What does comfort mean to you?
“Being able to fully relax at home. Comfortable clothes, soft bedding, warm lighting, and knowing that the people I love are close by.”
She laughs as she mentions that her daughter now has very clear preferences of her own when it comes to her favorite blankets.
“She already knows exactly which ones she wants.”
What is your favorite little ritual? “Clean sheets. Always. I love putting her in a freshly made bed after her bath. She smells clean, the room is quiet, and for a brief moment, everything feels exactly as it should.”
It is precisely those ordinary moments that Sophie wants to remember.
Not the perfectly planned days, but the sleepy cuddles, the messy breakfasts, and the little hands reaching out to her.
